I became aware of this Boston, Massachusetts rapper during the Pandemic as JFliz was sending music submissions for QUANTUM LEAP RADIO. It was apparent that JFliz was not manufactured for terrestrial radio. The raspy and rugged voice along with the raw beats he rapped over were a clear indication that his purpose was to add to “truskool” HOP music.
In 2023 he released ‘Space Dust’ which almost plays like ‘Deltron 3030’ but not as intricate as that album. ‘Space Dust’ takes the listener through a series of songs where JFliz exercises his abilities on the mic with a backdrop of traveling through space. Chuck Chan provides the beats on ‘Space Dust’ and does an excellent job of creating the mood of this release. It can be ominous, cold, and ambient which further emersed the listener into the album. JFliz’s voice will either distract or lock those same listeners in to the record, but the balance of the beats and rhymes will not feel like a wasted effort as they fit well.
The album features a few names that I have also become familiar with while having a radio show with open music submissions. Mike Titan, Tali Rodriguez, G Fam Black, P-Ro and Slik Jack all compliment the atmosphere created on ‘Space Dust.’ This is truly a project for the “underground Hip-Hop” listener and does not compromise the theme for any corporate entity. If needing that Winter HOP music listen, ‘Space Dust’ is where one will find it. What did you think of the album?
